Abstract (EN)
Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Comparison of Condyle Volumes in Patients Who Chew Unilaterally Temporomandibular joint disorders are the second most common cause of facial pain after dental pain. Many patients with temporomandibular joint disorders apply to the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic. Understanding the anatomy and physiology of the TMJ, which is responsible for functional movements such as chewing, speaking, swallowing, and breathing, is important in determining TMJ pathologies and dysfunction. Condylar remodeling is functional remodeling of the condyle to existing or changed occlusion can be thought of as an adaptation. Condylar remodeling is a lifelong process ıt is a process and can lead to changes in condyle shape for certain reasons. Maxillofacial morphological growth is controlled by a variety of environmental and genetic factors. The growth direction of the mandible is not only affected by occlusal forces, but also orthodontic and orthopedic treatment, parafunctional habits and functional malocclusion are also effective in this growth. In our study, it was aimed to calculate and compare the mandibular condyle volumes of patients who chew unilaterally. In this study, CBCT images obtained from patients with temporomandibular joint disorder who applied to the clinic were used. The aim of our study is to perform segmentation and volume measurement of condyles with CBCT images of patients who chew unilaterally. As a result, it was observed that the condyle volume on the chewing side was higher in patients who chewed unilaterally. Keywords: Temporomandibular joint, cone beam computed tomography, volume, chewing.
