Traditional music practices in Circassians of Yeleme Village ofTeke Region

In this study, the traditional music and music practices of Yeleme Village in Korkuteli, Antalya, were emphasized. In this context, in accordance qith the structured and unstructured interviews conducted with the source people and on various dates, findings based on the sociocultural life, traditional music and practices of the Circassian society were obtained. The Russian-Caucasian war that took place between 1817 and 1864 ended with the Russian Tsarist taking control in the Caucasus. For this reason, the increase of of coercive sanctions and pressures forced the Circassian people to migrate to Ottoman lands. The traditional music practices of Yeleme Village, which was discussed in the study, reflect the originality of the Circassian community formed by the Abzekhs, whose population density was forced to migrate into the borders of the Ottoman State as a result of the social and political policies of the postwar Russian Tsardom. The study focuses on the ongoing practices from birth to death and the repertoire compiled in this context. In the context of the musical practices of Yeleme Village, the songs and idioms that were made all in the fields of weddings, entertainment, agricultural production and works, which can be reached and recorded, are included. In addition, the use of instruments and songs, the role and importance of music practices in social life are emphasized. Key Words: Teke Region, Circassians, Yeleme Village, Music Practices
