The effect of technology on housing design and smart houses; Istanbul example

Spatial design have been developing day by day according to the needs and expectations of the society in parallel with technological developments since 1980s. In this study, the reflections of technology on spatial design in the historical development process are examined through the concepts of residential area and "smart home". The study was conducted based on site survey, literature research and observation. The functional, aesthetic and comfort conditions of the spatial design are explained with the analysis of the samples. In line with the increasing world population and the speed of urbanization, ultra smart homes, which constitute important elements of cities, are created as up-to-date solutions all over the world. In recent years, through urban transformation, building stock in Istanbul has changed and the number of high-rise buildings,constructed within the context of a smart home, have increased The samples studied were selected from high-rise projects that are used to identify smart home projects. The aim of the study is to understand the concepts of automation systems and 'smart home' related to technology-spatial design relationship, interaction and change. In the first chapter; the space and technology relationship , in the second chapter, spatial design developments, housing typologies and spatial characteristics are examined. In the third chapter, the definitions, characteristics and types of smart houses and automation systems were examined and while the samples from the world were studied, 10 buildings selected from Istanbul were studied. In the fourth chapter of the study, the Nisbetiye On Residence construction in Istanbul was examined in detail and the general characteristics, plan, space and automation features of the samples were studied. In the fifth chapter of the study, current technologies related to the subject are evaluated. It is predicted that smart home systems which are considered to be an important part of the future and technology will be the indispensable elements of high-rise projects. In this respect, it is thought that the study will benefit the students, academics and other researchers who are doing research in the field of technology and spatial design.
