Abstract (EN)
Aim: Explosive power performance is a determining factor for success in team sports. Therefore, high intensity, repeated training types such as repeated sprint and plyometrics have an important place in the annual training periodization of team sports. In this study, the effects of repeated sprint and plyometric training on aerobic capacity, maximal strength, neuromuscular power, sprint performance and agility, and the effects of repeated sprint and plyometric training on the aerobic and anaerobic performances of athletes are examined to reveal the superior and deficient aspects of these training types. Methods: The study was conducted with the participation of 31 trained athletes aged 15-17 years who had been involved in school team sports for at least two years. The study was conducted in two groups as repeated sprint training group (TSA) and plyometric training group (PA). The TSA group practiced repeated sprint training three days a week for eight weeks. The PA group underwent plyometric training for the same duration and frequency. At the beginning and end of the training protocol, pre-test and post-tests were performed. First Day: Body weight, height, body mass index and maximal oxygen consumption tests were performed. Second Day: Agility, leg press, squat measurements were included. Third Day: Squat jump, active jump and sprint performance tests were performed. Statistical analysis of this study was performed using SPSS 21.0 software program. Results: Analyses performed at the beginning of the training period showed that there was no significant difference between the groups in terms of descriptive and performance variables. After the training, significant differences were observed in VO2max, agility, leg press, squat, best sprint, average sprint, total sprint and performance decline percentage variables in the repeated sprint training group. When the performance change of the plyometric training group was analyzed, significant differences were observed in height, body weight, VO2max, squat jump, active jump, leg press, squat, best sprint, average sprint and total sprint variables. In terms of interaction between groups and over time, significant differences were found in height, VO2max, squat jump, active jump, leg press, squat, best sprint, average sprint, total sprint and percentage of performance decline. On the other hand, no significant differences were observed in body weight, body mass index and agility variables. Conclusion: A significant increase in aerobic endurance was observed in the repeated sprint training group. This indicates that repeated sprint training is effective in improving endurance and aerobic capacity. In the plyometric training group, more significant improvements were observed in anaerobic strength and anaerobic capasity. This showed that plyometric training is effective in improving performance in short-term and high-intensity activities. Keywords: Agility, Endurance, Strength, Plyometric training, Repeated sprinting
