ABSTRACT MsC THESIS APPLICATION OF REPRODUCTION METHODS IN TEXTILE FINISHING AND INVESTIGATION OF EFFECTS OF THESE METHODS ON FABRIC PERFORMANCE Onur BALCI DEPARTMENT OF TEXTILE ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATUREL AND APPLIED SCIENCE UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Prof. Dr. R.Tuğrul OGULATA Year : 2004, Page : 639 Jury : Prof. Dr. R.Tuğrul O?ULATA Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman BABAARSLAN Assist. Prof. Dr. Mesut BAŞIBÜYÜK In this study, textile finishing process, quality and quality control in textile and method of reproduction for faulty products are given in detail and than extensive study on these subject was made. %100 Polyester (knitted fabric), Cotton-Elastane and Polyester- Viscone-Elastane blended fabrics (woven fabrics) were ensured for using in experimental part of study. Experimental section consists of five parts. In the first part, effects of reproduction methods on fabric physical and chemical performance and in the second part, effects of colour remove productivity of reproduction methods were examined. In the third part, some studies were made about fastness improvements of Polyester- Viscone-Elastane fabric. In the fourth part, COD test was made to waste water which were ensured during the first and second parts' studies of thesis. In the fifth part, last part, reduction power of reducing agent used in the experimental part of study was tested and more information about these chemicals have been enhanced. According to the results, it has determined that operations applied in the first part of study affected fabric physical performance negatively but fabric chemical performance positively. It was also defined that these effects charge according to chemical agents used in processes and process conditions. In the second part of experimental study, it was observed that reproduction methods, which were used, were effective on amount of dye which was in fabric structure after application. Also it was defined that colour removal productivity of application charge according to dyeing intensity. With fastness improvement experiments applied in the third part of study have provided positive results when compared with referance fabric. Also COD value of waste waters which were obtained after part one, two and three's applcation of study was so high for enviromental standarts that it wasn't possible to be removed by chemical refinement methods. At the end of study, with the test results, alternative chemicals and improved methods were tried against to hydrosulfite used widely in textile finishing. As a suggestion, for similar studies, the experiments can be reapplied in the same/different aspects for the future thesis with different conditions. Key Words : Reproduction Methods, Reduction of Dye, Reduction Agents, Fastness II
