Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT MSc. Thesis ENZYMATIC COLORING OF COTTON KNITTED FABRICS WITHIN THE CLEAN PRODUCTION CONCEPT IN TEXTILE Ömer BOZKURT Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Textile Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Rıza ATAV In conventional textile wet processes, ecru fabric is subjected to many chemical processes until it turns into finished product. The chemicals used in these processes are highly toxic. The formation of pollution is significantly higher in dyeing preparation and dyeing processes than in post-dyeing processes. At this point, enzymatic processes constitute an important alternative for environmentally friendly production in textile finishing. In recent years, it is noteworthy that the literatures on the use of laccase enzymes in textile dyeing and promising studies for the future have been published. A study on enzymatic coloring is very limited and there is still not enough success on cotton. The aim of this thesis is to color cotton knitted fabrics by oxidation with laccase enzyme based on appropriate starting materials without using dyestuff according to the exhaust dyeing. In other words, it is aimed to create dye in the liquor and to perform dyeing at the same time. As a result of the experiments, it was determined that various yellow and red colors having acceptable fastness values could be obtained enzymatically on cotton knitted fabrics.
