Effect of pre-school children through violence on tv cartoons

Violence is the most emphasised influence of television. 61% of children's television series include violence. The rate of violent content is even higher in cartoons. There is a relation between violence on television and violent behaviour among children. According to relevant studies, children learn and try any positive and negative behaviour they see on TV. Preschoolers see television through the eyes of a researcher. They try to give a meaning to images they watch. Their interest concentrates on rapid change of characters, scenes, as well as on violence. Cartoons for children on televisions magnify the violence. Besides, these programmes show no consequences regarding victims or enforcers of violence. Blurriness between dream and reality in preschool period complicates monitoring of the violence in cartoons through a critical approach. Today, cartoon characters are either good or evil. There is no emphasis that an evil character will become good, or that this is the right path. The evil fights for evil. Violence and evil are methods for solution of problems. Cartoons relate incidents that are not existent in reality. Accordingly, children perceive the world as is shown, a world which includes motives such as flying spider man or transforming creatures etc. Protagonists in cartoons act as victims. The protagonist applies violence whenever he is subject to an injustice or wants to solve a problem. In this respect, the good, who fight the evil, always win. Therefore, violence becomes a factor necessary for triumph of the good. Consequently, use of violence is shown as ordinary and taken for granted. Preschoolers under influence of the violence in media feel fear and anxiety because they think they can also be subject to violence. Frequent crying spells, tendency for aggression, sleep disorders, decrease in self-worth, attention deficits and inclination for depression become more common among such children. Violence is a manner of behaviour related with aggression. Pursuant to relevant studies, there is a connection between violent television series and films and aggressive behaviours by children. According to a study on violence on television, 60% of all television programmes and 70% of children's television series include violence. Moreover, nine of every ten films incorporate violence. Due patterns should be established and related education should be provided so as to protect our children from such a bombardment of violence.
