Effect of basic communication skills on job satisfaction: A research in service industry

Abstract (EN)

Communication is an integral part of people' both daily and working life. Having established communication paves the way for being peaceful and happy in daily life as well as being more successful in working life. For effective communication it is necessary to have basic communication skills. The basic communication skills of individuals affect job satisfaction levels. The job satisfaction level also increases for those who have strong communication skills. The purpose of this study on the service sector employees is to determine how the basic communication skills of the employees in the sector affect job satisfaction. Besides, analyzes were conducted to determine whether the basic communication skills and job satisfaction levels differ according to the demographic characteristics of service sector employees. The survey technique was used in the field research. 404 people working in the service sector in Ankara Province participated in the study. The data were collected by a 5-point Likert-type Communication Skills Scale (ASI) and a Job Satisfaction Scale (ASI). In order to evaluate the findings obtained in the study, SPSS 22.0 Statistics package program was used. While evaluating the data, descriptive statistical methods (Frequency, Percentage, Average, Standard deviation), Independent t-tests, Anova and Correlation, Regression analysis were used. As a result of the analyzes conducted in the study, it was observed that there is positive and significant relationship statistically between basic communication skills and job satisfaction of service sector employees in Ankara Province. It was determined that a one-unit increase in employees' communication skills increased their job satisfaction by 0.16.
