The evaluation of usage efficiency of transcutaneous muscle stimulator adopted for peak amplitude children in cerebral palsy patients

Purpose: To search for the effects of the upper extremity neuromuscular electrical stimulation on spastic and brawn in cerebral palsy hemiplegia patients.Tools and Methods: Twenty SP hemiplegia patients voluntarily took part in the study. The patients were divided randomly into two groups: The first group was exposed to Exercise+NMES (n=10) for 40 minutes for five days at 60 sessions, the second group was exposed to exercise (n=10) only. Manual wrist muscle test, Scale modified Ascworth and reviews were done before and after the treatment by the physiotherapist. NMES peak amplitude used was developed as 35 mA for the patients that are children .Findings: When the first group exposed to Exercise+NMES was compared with the second group exposed to exercise only, the increase of wrist muscle strength was statistically higher (p<0.05). Similarly, when the first group exposed to Exercise+NMES was compared with the second group exposed to exercise only, the decrease in spatite was statistically higher (p<0.05). At the same time, peak amplitude of 35 mA electrical stimulation device was developed to be (NMES) did not cause any irritation or burn on patients.Conclusion: Applying Exercise+NMES instead of exercise only causes more decrease of upper extremities spasitic for SP hemipleji patients and more increase in the wrist muscle strength. Peak amplitude of 35 mA to be developed in the hills NMES can be used safely for the treatment of children.Key words: Cerebral palsy (CP), hand rehabilitation, transcutaneous muscle stimulator (TENS).
