Abstract (EN)

Brick has always been a very important building material since ancienttimes. It offers very good resistance against water, for stand fire there fore it one of the most fundamental and commonly used building material. Flyash refers to the very fine ash particles that are for medanddrifted away with other gases from the coal-fired thermal power plant chimneys as a result of coal combustion. In this study various characteristics of a brick, produced by mixing flyash from the Soma Thermal Power Plant with clay in the region of Turgutlu (Manisa) with a certain proportion, are investigated. An increase of upto 0.73 kPa to 5.24 kPa has been observed for the mereclayey soil bricks depending on their burning temperature. As for the clay-fly ash blended bricks, we have observed similar characteristics to those of the mereclayey soil bricks when the amount of fly-ash is less than 30% in the blend. When this amount of fly-ash is increased above 30% in the blend, the strength of resulting bricks is worsened.
