Abstract (EN)
TESTICULAR ISCHEMIA REPERFUSION MODEL EVALUATION OF BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERSClinical and experimental data have shown that testicular torsion results in a spectrum of injuries dependent upon both the duration and degree of torsion. It is generally accepted that period of torsion exceeding 6-10 hours will result in irreversible damage. The aim of this study was to determine serum testicular hormon levels in different durations of testicular tortion without surgical approach. Testicular hormone levels which synchronised with testicular damage can be useful to select surgical approach.For this puposes, 36 pre-pubertal Wistar-Albino male rats were involved in this study. The first 6 rats were accepted as control group. Other rats were underwent 720 degrees testicular torsion and divided to 5 groups based on testicular torsion duration (2- 4- 6- 8- 24 hours: groups 2, 3, 4, 5, respectively). After intracardiac blood aspiration, bloods were centrifuged and serum samples were obtained. Sex hormon binding globulin ( SHBG ), transferine and testosterone levels were determined in these samples.When compared the groups, there were no statistical difference between groups in Transferrin levels. SHBG levels decreased at group 6 when compared to those at group 3 ( p<0.05 ). Serum testosterone levels were lower at groups 2, 3, 4, 5 when compared to those at control group.These data shown that integrity of Sertoli cells which are the main condition to maintain the spermatogenesis, were not affected by short duration of testicular torsion. But deficiency of testosterone impair the spermatogenesis and the damage can be irreversibl related to elongation of testicular torsion.
