Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study was investigate the effect of four different cement cleaning procedures performed on dentin surfaces after using two different temporary cements on the shear bond strength of total etch and self etch cement. Material and Method: The crowns of 220 non-carious human maxillary incisive teeth were cut from 2 mm apically on the enamel-cement junction. The teeth were embedded in acrylic blocks so that their vestibular dentin surfaces would be exposed. Temporary restorations were prepared with a diameter of 4 mm and height of 2 mm and cemented on dentin surface by using temporary cement with (RelyX Temp E) and without eugenol (RelyX Temp NE). No temporary restoration was applied to 20 specimens. All specimens (n=200) were kept in distilled water for 7 days at room temperature. Temporary restorations were removed from 40 specimens (20 eugenol and 20 non-eugenol) without applying any surface cleaning procedures. The cement residues on the dentin surfaces of the remaining specimens (n=160) were removed with four different cleaning methods (hand tool, diamond drill, 2% chlorhexidine gluconate solution and Er:YAG laser). 40 specimens on which temporary cement was applied (20 eugenol and 20 non-eugenol) were used for each cleaning method. For the surface evulation of the specimens subjected to different cleaning procedures, the SEM image of one specimen from each group was taken and EDS test was performed. Total etch resin cement (Variolink II) was applied on the half of the cleaned specimens and self etch resin cement (Panavia F2.0) was applied to the other half of the cleaned specimens. The shear bond strength test was performed by using a Universal Testing Machine at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. obtained data were statistically analysed by using the Mann Whitney-U Test and Kruskal Wallis-H Test (p˂0.05). Results: The highest shear bond strength value (4.59 ± 0.81 MPa) was found in the group in which non-eugenol temporary cement residues without eugenol were cleaned with Er:YAG laser before self etch resin cement application while the lowest shear bond strength value (3.31±0.71 MPa) was found in the group in which eugenol containing temporary cement residues with eugenol were cleaned with hand tool before self etch resin cement application. Conclusion: The highest shear bond strength values for both resin cements were found after the temporary cement residues were cleaned with Er: YAG laser.
