Abstract (EN)

In the Anatolian lands, which have hosted many civilizations, the Trabzon Straw and Kazaziye telkari that have survived until today, the jewelry decorated with niello in the province of Van, the telkari jewelry and accessories produced in the province of Mardin and Midyat are considered within the scope of the cultural heritages that have survived from our history to this day. In the Convention on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was accepted by UNESCO in 2003 and by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 2006, the art of making filigree jewelry was added to the field of local handicrafts. Telkari is produced by Syriac and Muslim masters with handcraft skills, especially in the Midyat district of Mardin, which dates back to ancient times. Telkari is extremely important for local people in terms of domestic and foreign tourism. The art of making telkari jewelry has also preserved its local identity by taking geographical indications. telkari; It is a local jewelry art that is completed by using silver or gold wires produced in different thicknesses to create the outer roof and inner filling of the designed jewelry or accessories, and also made ready for use by the weighting process, which is strengthened by rod and powder welding process. This study is explained by comparing the materials and techniques used in ancient Mardin jewelry and today's telkari jewelry and accessories.
