Özet (EN)

In this thesis, the basic principles, methods and substantial values of Thomas Hill Green's political philosophy are examined within the framework of his general philosophical theory. This study is important for understanding the fundamental philosophical debates of the eighteenth and nineteenth-century philosophies, as well as for understanding the influence of Green's philosophy. No study on Green's philosophy was conducted in Turkey. General studies on British idealism are also very limited. We think that this thesis will contribute to fill this gap. The subject of the study is limited to Green's political philosophy. However, due to conceptual and normative relationship between the ethical and the political philosophies of Green, it is necessary to examine the foundations of his metaphysics of morals. For this purpose, his understanding of political obligation, natural rights and natural law were also examined. Although Green is a liberal thinker, his political thoughts differ from that of classical liberal or libertarian thinkers. First of all, he develops a cooperative, distributive and egalitarian scheme. His conception of the common good is also based on this normative framework. This thesis tries to identify Green's place in the history of philosophy through critique of his philosophical rivals and allies from his idealistic position.
