The relation between the attitudes towards ?the internet? and their academic achivements in the lesson ?the internet and network systems? of the students studying in the computer programming department in trade vocational and Anatolian trade vocational high schools

In this research the relationship between the attitudes towards ?theinternet? and their academic achivements in the lesson ?Internet and NetworkSystems? , which is based on this subject, of the tenth grade students of TradeVocational and Anatolian Trade Vocational High Schools, has been tried to beanalysed on the basis of different variables.The variables can be ordered as; gender, economic level, having acomputer, reading magazines about technology and watching tv programmesabout technology.The research sample is consisted of 48 students studying at the tenthgrade of Osmaniye Trade Vocational High School and Computer ProgrammingDepartment of Anatolian Trade Vocational High School in the academic term2005-2006.The data about the problem of the research has been collected frompersonal information questionnaires, attitude scale towards internet and anacademic achievement test which is prepared and improved by the researcherherself.The academic achivement test with 27 questions has been applied on62 students and after the factor analyses, 7 of the 27 items on the scale havebeen eliminated for being evaluated as invalid and unreliable. An academicachivement test of 20 questions with 0,86 reliability level has been developed.In this descriptive type research, 11 sub-problems have been dealt with,and with SPSS Program For Windows; Percentage Analysis, One-WayVariance Analysis (ANOVA), t-Test, Mann Whitney-U Test and CorrelationAnalysis have been used to analyse the data.As a result of the analyses carried out , no significant difference has beenfound between the attitude towards the ?Internet? and academic achievement . Ithas been observed that there is no meaningful difference between attitudescores and gender, economic level, reading magazine about technology andwatching TV programmes about technology. Only significant difference hasbeen observed in the situation of having a computer at home.No significant difference has been found between the academicachivement and all terms of the above mentioned variables.Keywords : Attitude, Academic Achievement, Trade Vocational High Schools,Internet and Network Systems.
