Commerical relation the İzmir Port (1923-1929)

During the history, harbour of İzmir was not only used for trade but also it effected foreign policies and the structure of production of the countries. So,the history of the blessed harbour gives us information about the ecology and the international relations from the ancient times. Especially in the 19th. Century Britain's aim of conquering the Ottoman empire was because of the existence of the İzmir harbour.Because Britain wanted to make the empire a colony in order to serve Britain's raw material and market resources.In the same way the disagreement between Italy and Greece after the 1st. World war was because of the same reason. After the war Harbour of İzmir was a trade model of a tired nation.Because it was and still is the greatest export harbour of Turkey and is one of the greatest harbours in the region. Owing to the harbour we have the chance to analyze and study the products which were exported between 1923 and 1929,so we can see the variation and change of products in different periods, the problems that the producers had,the contribution of the harbour to the city and the hinterland,the changes in social and economic structure of the city. All of these gives us an opinion about the foreign trade policies and relations of the new republic. Moreover, if you analyze the imported products from this harbour you can see the requirements of the people in this period.Briefly the harbour is not only a commercial component but also a structure which gives us detailed information about the social and economical position of the region.
