Effect of bleaching gel containing tio2/chitosan on tooth surface roughness, microhardness and color

Our study aims to evaluate the effects of the experimental bleaching gel (TiO2 / Chitosan / 6% HP), along with the Opalescence Boost PF (40% HP) and Philips Zoom (25% HP) bleaching agents, on tooth surface roughness, microhardness and colour change. For surface roughness and microhardness measurements, 72 samples (4x4x3 mm) of bovine incisors were prepared and randomly divided into 2 groups (n = 36). 36 human premolar teeth were used for color analysis. Before the bleaching application, surface roughness with profilometer, microhardness measurement with Vicker's test device and color measurement with spectrophotometer were performed. Then, each group was randomly divided into 3 subgroups for bleaching application (n = 12). Experimental gel (TiO2 / Chitosan / 6% HP) was applied to Group 1 and activated with D-Light Duo Led device (5 min x 9). In Group 2, Opalescence Boost PF (40% HP) bleaching gel was applied chemically (15 min x3). After applying Philips Zoom (25% HP) to Group 3, Zoom Advanced Power was activated with UV light (15 min x 3). In normally distribution ANOVA- Bonferroni and Paired t test. Kruskal Wallis- Dunn and Wilcoxon test was used for non-normally distribution. p <0.05 was considered significant. While there was an increase in surface roughness values after bleaching in all groups, there was no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05). Also, there was no statistically significant decrease in microhardness values after bleaching (p > 0.05). The lowest bleaching efficacy was observed in Group 2 and the highest efficacy was observed in Group 3 (p < 0.05). Within the results, it was determined that low concentration (6% HP) experimental gel containing TiO2 and chitosan provided effective bleaching, also not caused any adverse effects on tooth surface roughness and microhardness.
