Abstract (EN)
Type 1 diabetes mellitus, one of the endocrine pathologies of childhood, is a chronic metabolic disease that begins with the destruction of pancreatic β cells and results in an absolute deficiency of insulin. Autoimmune diseases, especially autoimmune thyroiditis and celiac disease, are frequently associated with type 1 DM. These diseases can be screened with autoantibodies. In this study, 186 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus were identified in Dicle University Pediatric Endocrine Clinic. Autoantibody positivity of patients was evaluated in terms of thyroiditis and celiac disease. Statistical analysis of the results obtained from the study was made using the SPSS version 24.0 program and p <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Of the 186 cases evaluated, 24 (12.9%) were anti-TPO positive and 12 (6.7%) anti-TG positive cases. The number of cases in which both antibodies were positive was found as 11 (6%). Of the 186 cases evaluated, 24 (12%) patients were found to have anti-tTG IgA positive. When thyroid autoantibodies and anti-tTG IgA positive patients were evaluated together, 3 (1.7%) patients were found to be positive with anti-TPO and anti-tTG IgA. In conclusion, screening of autoimmune diseases accompanying type 1 DM is important to follow up with the patient and to anticipate additional problems that may develop. Therefore, it is necessary to scan the relevant patient group with auto-antibodies in terms of autoimmune diseases at the time of diagnosis and also to make annual follow-up. Key words: Type 1 DM, Hashimoto thyroiditis, celiac disease, autoantibody
