SUMMARYComparison of Disease Duration and Electrophysiological Neuropathy Findings in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1Objective: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) in childhood T-cells as an intermediary for common chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. Nephropatyh, retinopathy and neuropathy create the long term microvasculer complication in type 1 DM. Complications in the development of the effect of the literature prepubertal duration of diabetes is still controversial. But it is an important step in development of many studies in prepubertal duration of diabetes complication, must have played role.In this study, patients with type 1 DM divided in to three groups (0-3,3-5,5 years above). Electrophysiological research methods for the presence of neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy patients and the control group were compared with each other.Methods: Duzce University School of Medicine study followed 60 patients with type 1 DM electrophysiological results were compared to 20 healthy children.Results: In this study, we have done with lower extremity sensory nerve, sural nerve distal latance (DL) lengthen the control group after 3 years have seen. Speed and amplitude of the sural sensory nevre, but not statistically significant reduction in duration of illness seen. There was no significant difference in tibial and peroneal DL, but decreases with duration of illness of these nerves have found.There was no difference in terms of median nevre motor DL and amplitude.The median nevre motor speed decreases with duration of illness. The median nerve motor speed decrease with duration of illness. But the longer the amplitude and velocity decreases. These results suggested that the early diagnosis of diabetic neuropaty, and sural sensory nevre conduction evaluation has shown that an important role.Conclusion: One of the long-term microvascular complications in type 1 DM peripheral neuropathy. An important step in the development of prepubertal durationvof diabetes complications has been suggested to play a role. Nerve conduction studies are important for diagnosis. The earliest of lower extremity diabetic polyneuropathy sensory fibers are affected. Therefore, determining the most sensitive parameter for the detection of polyneuropathy sensory nerve conduction studies of the lower extremities. In our study, we saw the first lower limbs are affected by the sural sensory nerve. Nerve conduction studies, duration of illness became more prominent signs of peripherel neuropathy.Key words: Type 1 diabetes mellitus, polyneuropathy, nevre conduction study
