Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted as a descriptive study in order to investigate the relationship between sleep and quality of life and psychological stability of adolescents with type 1 diabetes. The study was carried out between October 2018 and June 2019 in Düzce University Research and Application Center. Data were collected by face-to-face interview with Personal Information Form, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Quality of Life Scale for Children, Child and Young Psychological Health Scale, which contains introductory information for adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Kolmogorov Smirnov, Mann Whitney U, Kruskall Wallis H, Sperman's rho tests were used for data evaluation. 55.6% (n = 50) of the adolescents with type 1 diabetes were female and 50% (n = 45) were in the 13-14 age group. Of the adolescents, 33.3% (n = 30) were patients for seven years or more. It was found that all of the adolescents who participated in the study administered insulin on their own, 45.6% (n = 41) of them allowed to perform their daily activities well, more than half of them slept between six and eight hours at night and the blood glucose level was never or once in the majority. Type 1 diabetes was found to cause sleep disorders in adolescents in the first two years. It was determined that the total scores of school functioning and psychosocial health of the patients with an additional disease other than diabetes were adversely affected. It was concluded that those with good sleep quality and those who received diabetes education during diagnosis had good quality of life and psychological stability. Further studies are recommended.
