Özet (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between parental follow-up in diabetes care of adolescents with type 1 diabetes and the effect of diabetes on the family in order to determine which situations parents who are effective in ensuring the compliance and metabolic control of adolescents with type 1 diabetes face while performing this responsibility and to ensure that diabetes is followed up by being aware of these situations. In the study, relational screening model, which is one of the quantitative research types, was used. Easy sampling method, one of the non-probability determination methods, was used to determine the study group and a study was conducted with 124 parents who had children between the ages of 12-18 and who had been suffering from type 1 diabetes for at least 6 months. In our study, "Adolescent and Family Information Form", "Diabetes Effect on Family Scale" and "Parental Monitoring Scale in Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes" were used to collect data. 214 parents participated in the study. 49.1% of the gender of adolescents with type 1 diabetes who are the subject of the study are female and 50.9% are male. 66.8% of adolescents have diabetes at 24 months and over, 23.4% have diabetes between 12-24 months and 9.8% have diabetes between 6-12 months, 14% have insulin pump and 86% do not have insulin pump. 73.8% of adolescents have nuclear family, 15.9% have extended family, and 10.3% have a single-parent family. While 95.3% of the families received diabetes education, 4.7% did not receive any diabetes education. While 12.1% of the families received psychological support, 87.9% did not receive any psychological support. There is a weak, positive and significant relationship between the total score of the effect of diabetes on the family and parental follow-up in diabetes care at the level of 20% (r = .205 p = .001). The value between the impact of diabetes on the family and the monitoring of diabetes in the family is R2:0.042. According to the results of the research, as the negative impact of diabetes on the family increases, the level of parental follow-up increases and there is a significant relationship between them. It is thought that in order for adolescents and parents to overcome the psychosocial and socioeconomic problems they encounter, evaluating them from a social work perspective and using appropriate social service interventions will ensure that the adolescent with diabetes and his family are less affected by diabetes.
