Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a serious, chronic metabolic disease. Since the mental or behavioral problems accompanying physical diseases negatively affect the patient's compliance, well-being, mortality and morbidity, it is very important to evaluate these problems. The aim of this study is to determine the eating attitude and life satisfaction in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Materials and Methods: The universe of this descriptive study consisted of 188 patients hospitalized with the diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at the Internal Medicine and Wound Care Services of the Ministry of Health-Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital between December 2018 and May 2019. The sample of the study consisted of 130 patients who were hospitalized in the relevant services within the specified date range and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data of the study were collected by face-to-face interview method by using the Patient Descriptive Questionnaire, EAT-40 and LSS. Results: The mean age of the patients was 66.21 ± 11.62, the mean EAT-40 score was 30.14 ± 6.29, and the mean LSS score was 24.76 ± 5.74. The probable eating disorder prevalence of the patients was determined as 46.9%. According to the perception of income and health status, the mean score of LSS; It was determined that there was a significant difference between the mean LSS score and possible eating disorder according to the place of residence. Consclusion: In this study, approximately half of the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients had probable eating disorders and their perceptions of life satisfaction were above moderate. It is important that nurses provide individual-centered psychosocial care with an integrated approach by ensuring patient participation in improving the physical and mental health outcomes of patients.
