The effect of adipokines which is secreted from adipose tissue on atherosclerosis in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract (EN)

Atherosclerosis occurs as a result of lipoprotein metabolism abnormalities, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, and predisposition thrombosis occur as a result of predisposition. By modification low-density lipoprotein (LDL) as modified becomes oxidized and gets features as aterogenic for the organism. Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) is pro-inflammatory and pro-atherogenic, takes part actively with atherosclerotic lesion initiation, progression and potentially destabilization. Endothelial dysfunction and lipid-lowering therapy by using statins or apheresis followed by the Ox-LDL levels decreased as a result of the occuring healing.Adipose tissue has an important role for metabolism and inflammation. Adipokines released by adipocytes have autocrine, paracrine and endocrine effects. Apelin, a new adipokine has an important role on atherosclerosis. in atherosclerosis. Low apelin levels in patients with dyslipidemia are decreased by statin theraphy.In this study, in diabetes patients with hypercholesterolomic, ox-LDL and apelin leves were measured by ELİSA method. Serum LDL, HDL, triglyserid, cholesterol, fasting blood glucose were mesured by enzymatic methodAccording to our results in Group II (before treatment) and Group III (after tree mounts statin theraphy) patients, Ox-LDL and Lipid profile levels were higher than Group I (control group), HDL and apelin levels only were lower than Group I (control grup). Ox-LDL, LDL and cholesterol values of Group III patients which were received statin therapy during three mounts were lower than values of Group II patients but apelin values were higher than Group II patients. When two groups (Group II and Group III) compare with each other, apelin, Ox-LDL, LDL ve cholesterol levels were found statistically significant. (p<0,05) (p<0,001). When the two groups compare with each other, statistically significant differance wasn?t observed between serum HDL, triglycerides, fasting blood glucose ve BMI levels.(p>0,05)We are suggesting that these parameters should help in treatment and follow-up of the diabetic patients having atherosclerosis.Key words: atherosclerosis, diabetes, statin threapy, ox-LDL, apelin.
