Evaluation of knowledge levels of type 2 diabetes patients regarding antidiabetic medications and blood glucose regulation factor

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the level of knowledge of patients with type 2 diabetes regarding the use of diabetes medications, their potential interactions with food and other drugs, and their role in blood glucose regulation. Material and Method: This study was designed as a descriptive cross-sectional study. A questionnaire was used to collect data on patients' medication use, dietary habits, knowledge about drug and food interactions, and awareness of blood glucose regulation. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used for data analysis. Results: According to the findings, most participants reported using diabetes medications regularly. However, only a few had knowledge about food-drug interactions. While more than half were aware of their target blood glucose levels, regular follow-up with healthcare professionals was limited. Qualitative data revealed that some patients had adopted a diabetic lifestyle, whereas others struggled to do so. Conclusion: This study reveals that individuals with type 2 diabetes have insufficient knowledge regarding medication use, dietary habits, and blood glucose control. Although most participants reported taking their medications regularly, awareness of drug interactions remains low. Follow-up by healthcare professionals is limited, and lifestyle changes are not sustainable. This situation hinders treatment adherence and increases the risk of complications in the long term.
