Abstract (EN)

Atheroclerosis is disease of arterial wall, initiated by dyslipidemia and exacerbated by inflamation. An early event in the progression of disease is the accumulation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in subintima of arterial wall where it may become oxidized (oxLDL). Lp-PLA2 which is connected to LDL cholesterol is caused by inflamation response in artery wall. As a result of this inflamatuary response, plaque formation and intima-media thickness incresase signaficantly. Lp-PLA2 is especially responsible for formation of rupture-prone plaque. Diabetes also enhanges the production of matrix metalloproteinases that lead to breakdown of collogen. Collogen confers mechanical stability to the plaque?s fibrous cap. When collogen breakdown increases and synthesis decreases, plaque may rupture more readly, a trigger to thrombus formation. So, atherosclerosis also occurs rapidly. In this study, in diabetes patients with hypercholesterolomic, serum Lp-PLA2 levels by immuno-turbidimetric method (plac test kit), serum LDL, HDL, triglyserid, cholesterol, fasting blood glukose by enzymatic method and karotis intima-media thickness were measured by B-mode ultrasonography method.According to our results in Group II (before treatment) and Group III (after three mounts statin therapy) patients, Lp-PLA2, Lipid profile levels and IMT (intima-media thickness) were higher than Group I (control group) and HDL levels only were lower than Group I. Values of Group III patients which were received statin therapy during three mounts were lower than values of Group II patients. In decrease, when two groups (Group II and Group III) compare with each other, serum Lp-PLA2, LDL, cholesterol, trigyliserid and IMK were found between the values of means is statistically (p<0,001). When the two groups compare with each other, statistically signaficant differance wasn?t observed between serum HDL levels (p=0,198).We are suggesting that these parameters should help in treatment and follow-up of the diabetic patients having atherosclerosis.Key words: Atherosclerosis, diabetes, statin threapy, Lp-PLA2, IMT( intima-media thickness).
