Determination of mediterranean diet adherence, microbiota and eating awareness and nutritional status of women with and without metabolic syndrome with type 2 diabetes

Abstract (EN)

This study was planned to evaluate the relationships between adherence to the Mediterranean diet, microbiota and eating differences and nutritional status of women with type 2 diabetes with and without metabolic syndrome. 172 volunteers with type 2 diabetes between the ages of 25-65 participated in the study. General knowledge, General information, anthropometric measurements, biochemical findings, eating habits, Mediterranean diet compliance (MEDAS), microbiota awareness scale (MFÖ), eating awareness (YFÖ-30), healthy eating obsessions (ORTO-R), fermented food consumption frequencies and prebiotic-containing food consumption frequency were evaluated. It was determined that the product knowledge subscale scores of those with metabolic syndrome were significantly lower than those without metabolic syndrome (p=0,002). It was determined that the emotional eating subscale scores of those who had MetS were significantly higher than those who did not have MetS (p=0,011). A positive and statistically significant relationship was found between the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Scale and general information, probiotic prebiotic, MFÖ-total, emotional eating scores in individuals with MetS (respectively r=0,354, p<0,001; r=0,222, p=0,037; r=0,304, p=0,004; r=0,256, p=0,016). Statistically significant differences were found in terms of weight (kg), BMI (kg/m2), waist circumference (cm), hip circumference (cm), waist/hip ratio, body fat percentage, body fat weight, lean body percentage, body water percentage, body fat/lean body mass index, waist/height ratio, upper middle arm circumference, AVI, BAI, CI and BRI values according to the presence of MetS (respectively p<0,001, p<0,001, p=0,003, p=0,023, p<0,001, p<0,001, p<0,001, p<0,001, p=0,001, p<0,001, p<0,001, p<0,001, p<0,001, p=0,002, p=0,036, p<0,001). Statistically significant differences were found in fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, HDL, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure values according to the presence of MetS (respectively p=0,002, p=0,004, p<0,001, p<0,001, p<0,001, p<0,017). For this reason, it will be beneficial to emphasize the importance of Mediterranean-type nutrition to individuals with type 2 diabetes and to plan an individual-specific nutrition plan by a dietician.
