Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY PURPOSE: The relationship between clinic activation score with choroidal thickness and peripapillary nerve fiber layer thickness measured by optical coherens tomography in METHODS: 45 patients, followed in Dokuz Eylül University Neuro-Ophtalmology clinic, previously diagnosed with throid ophthalmopathy were enrolled the study. The patients grouped by their clinical activation score as active and inactive thyroid ophtalmopathy. Twenty eyes of 10 patients in active disease and 70 eyes of 35 patients in inactive disease group were enrolled in this study. Patients who have additional ophtalmological problems that effect vision and patients with systemic diseases other than diabetes and hypertension were excluded. After complete ophthalmologic examination, all patients choroidal and peripapillary nerve fiber layer thickness were examined with optical coherens tomography RESULTS: Average age of patients in the active disease group was 53.5±15.43 and in the inactive disease group was 47±13.12. Comparing the best corrected visual acuities with Snellen was 0.9±0.05 and 0.93±0.08 in active and inactive disease group,respectively. All patients diagnosis was Graves Hyperthyroidism and there were no systemic disease except diabetes and hypertension. The mean disease time of hyperthyroidy was same in both groups. While it was 60,10±53.629 months in active disease group, it was 49.97±107.985 in inactive disease group. The smoking rates are %70 and %54,3 in active and inactive disease groups, respectively. Choroidal thicknes was measured in three quadrants; subfoveal, temporal and nasal. Mean choroidal thickness in inactive disease group was 285±53,703 μm, 265,20±42,360 μm, 202,90±42,911 μm and in active disease group was 43±39.578 μm, 234,10±22,467 μm, 183,40±35,368 μm. There are statistically difference between two groups' choroidal thickness. Peripapillary RSLK thickness was measured in four quadrants; superior, inferior, temporal and nasal. In inactive group the values are 122,83±4,872 μm, 130,09±5,736 μm, 66,34±6,825 μm, 73,97±6,410 μm; in active disease group the values are 125±4,447 μm, 134,10±6,806 μm, 68,30±8,820 μm, 74,50±6,980 μm. CONCLUSION: Peripapillary nerve fiber layer thickness was found similar between active and inactive thyroid ophthalmopathy patients and there was significantly thinning in choroidal thickness in active thyroid ophthalmopathy patients.
