Abstract (EN)

The electrolysis of four different coal-water slurries (Tunçbilek, Çayırhan, Dacota and Pittsburg) were studied under 1 V constant potential for 480 minutes. By using Fe (II) and Fe (III) ions there was an increase on average current density and the amount of hydrogen produced in cathode (from 30 mL to 80 mL). The electrochemical behavior of coal-water slurries was examined with various noble metal electrodes (i.e. plated Pt/Ir on Ti foil and plated Pt,Pd,Pt/Ir on carbon felt) using potentiostatic techniques. The best performance for the electrooxidation of coal in terms of hydrogen production was obtained by Platin/Iridium plated carbon felt electrodes. An increase on the volume (49,5 mL) of hydrogen obtained in cathode by using Pt/Ir plated carbon felt was observed
