Tuba DEMİR, The evaluation of the stapes muscle with Stapedius Reflex Test in the patients using Thiocolchicoside the muscle relaxant, Başkent University Health Science Institute, Audiology and Speech Sound Disorders Postgraduate Program. 2015 Aim of the research: To investigate the effect of using Thiocolchicoside (a group of muscle relaxant) on the acoustic reflex, to emphasize that the muscle relaxant is a factor that increases the acoustic trauma and to develop recommendations about taking necessary measures for ear health. Tools and Method: The ipsilateral and contralateral 500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000 Hz and 4000 Hz acoustic reflex thresholds identified for both ears before given Thiocolchicoside to a total of 76 healthy people (38 male and 38 female between the age of 20 and 40) and the acoustic reflex thresholds and parameters of 2nd day of drug use and 5th day of the end of drug use have been compared.The relationship of the acoustic reflex threshold changes have been statistically evaluated. Findings: All of the acoustic reflex thresholds measured after the use of Thiocolhicoside have risen compared to those in the period before drug use and to those on the 2nd day of the end of the drug use. According to the results the drug has increased the contralateral and ipsilateral thresholds especially more prominently at the frequency of 500 Hz in both ears on the day when the drug is given. Result: Thiocolhicoside is a factor which potentiates the acoustic trauma-inducing effect of the noise. This has the meaning of preventing the occurence of the protective mechanism.
