Monopolization on seeds and its effects on Turkey

Abstract (EN)
In today?s world, seed is not only a nutrient; but also a profit tool of multinational corporations. Seed which is the most important agricultural input has not got any alternative, thus, monopolization period on seed makes producer the slave of seed firms. The producers are mentioned to be bounded to a few international corporations because of the patent rights that are being carried out, the agreements that do not give producers the opportunity of preserving seeds and terminator gene technology applications. In this sense, the main purpose of the studies is to analyzing the effect of monopolization on seed period over agricultural structures in Turkey and results that are caused for producers and consumers. However, before starting such analysis, firstly, the development period of seed sector that is improving under government control until 1980s from republic will be analyzed, secondly, entering liberalizing period on seed around neo-liberal policies after 1980s, changing the protective and defensive attitude of government, analyzing the period of smoothing the way of company agriculture activities by defeating institutional sets in front of international capital movements. In all these analysis, some global actors such as DTÖ, DB, IMF that guarantees structural transformation in world trade policies and period of liberalizing agricultural trade and agreements and law that protect the profits of multinational corporations will be held. Within all this scope, the effects of monopolization period in turkey seed sector will be considered and after considering production and consumption periods, the effects of monopolization period to today and future?s Turkish economy and its results will be held.
