Evaluation of the quality of life of families with between 6-14 years of age children with disabilities in tokat province and determination of factors affecting the quality of life

World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) group quality of life is defined as a personal perception of the situation in life in terms of the system of cultural structures and values in which the person lives and also in terms of their own aims, expectations and standards. The quality of life at the family level is defined as meeting the needs of family members, living together as a family, having meaningful goals for family members and achieving these goals. Consideration of the psychological and social problems that will arise from the detailed evaluation of the quality of life of the families of children with disabilities will help to produce effective solution proposals for these problems. It is also thought that parents will be more interested in the rehabilitation of the disabled child with their children. In our study, The parents who have children with mental, physical, mental-physical disabilities in the area between 6-14 years of age who are educated in the Special Education Institutions of Tokat City Center and parents who have 136 healthy children aged 6 to 14 who are trained in primary / secondary schools qualities and the factors affecting them are examined. The WHOQOF-BREF TR scale was used to assess quality of life. A personal information form was created for the socio-demographic data of the family. When the average scores on the quality of life scale of parents with disabled children and parents with healthy children were examined, the quality of life of families with disabled children was found to be lower than those with healthy children. Compared to parents who have children with disabilities, the quality of life of the mother is lower than that of the father. The obstacle grade in the health report was found to be the monthly income, the education level of the father, and the maternal working status were the factors affecting the quality of life. It was determined that the gender of the child, type of disability, parental age, education level of the mother, father's occupation and family structure did not affect the quality of life of the family As a result, the fact that families with disabled children have lower quality of life than those with healthy children and that there is a difference in the quality of life between the mother and the father with the disabled child demonstrates the importance of psycho-social support, guidance and work to raise quality of life for these families.
