Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in Tokat province of Turkey in 2021-2022. Trips species seen in pepper cultivation areas in Tokat province were determined. During the pepper production period, from June to October in 2021-2022, sampling were performed to represent the fields in the Merkez, Erbaa, Niksar, Turhal, and Pazar districts of Tokat. A total of 7 species were identified in this study. These species are as follows; Frankliniella occidentalis (Priesner, 1932), Thrips tabaci (Lindeman), Thrips meridionalis (Priesner 1926), Chirothrips manicatus (Haliday, 1836), Aeolothrips intermedius (Bagnall, 1934), Aeolothrips fasciatus (Linnaeus, 1758) from Thripidae family and Haplothrips aculeatus (Fabricius, 1803) Phlaeothripidae family. In this study, it was determined that the dominant thrips species in pepper fields in Tokat province was F. occidentalis. The second part of the study is about the use of different control methods in thrips management. Esen and Gama sweet pepper varieties were used in this study under field conditions. Treatments were control, Orius laevigatus (Fieber), Amblyseius swirskii Athias Henriot, Azadirachtin 790 g/l + Neem oil 0.3 g/l (plant-based insecticide), Spinosad 240 g/l, Formetanate hydrochloride 50% and pheromone blue sticky trap. The trial was set up according to the randomized plot design, with plot sizes of 360x270cm, 100cm between plots, and 4 replications. Blank control was used to evaluate the efficacy of the treatments. In studies conducted in 2021 and 2022, thrips density remained below the economic damage threshold (3 thrips/flower). The trips density in O. laevigatus, A. swirskii, Azadirachtin 790 g/l + Neem oil 0.3 g/l (Herbal preparation), Spinosad 240 g/l and Formetanate hydrochloride 50% applications were 1 thrips/flower, 1.6 thrips/flower, 0.2 thrips/flower. Also in Pheromone+ blue sticky trap applications density remained below 0.3 thrips/flower. This study revealed that biological preparations and traps can be used against thrips under field conditions in integrated pest management systems.
