Abstract (EN)

The subject of this study is the commentary of some ghazals (1-50) in the Dîvân of Tokatlı Kânî (d. 1791), who lived in the 18th century and made a name for himself with his humorous style as well as his prose and verse works. This study primarily aims to reveal the literary identity and artistic power of Kânî, who has a different structure and temperament from other poets in terms of both personality and poetry, and to contribute to the commentary studies that serve to introduce and better understand divan poetry. The study consists of two parts. In the first part, Tokatlı Kânî is introduced within the framework of his life, literary personality, works, and the structure of the period in which he lived. In the second part, which constitutes the basis of the study, information is first given about the concept of commentary and commentary methods; Later, the Turkish ghazals among the first fifty ghazals from Tokatlı Kânî Dîvânı were annotated. When annotating the ghazals, the entire ghazal was first given, then each couplet was examined and explained one by one. When the couplets were examined, the equivalents of the words whose meanings were thought to be unknown were given first, and then the couplet was translated into modern Turkish. After these, the couplets were annotated by trying to look from the poet's perspective as much as possible, along with the identification and explanation of the metaphors, symbols and literary arts in them. The information and findings obtained as a result of the annotations are stated in the "Conclusion" section.
