Özet (EN)
Allergic rhinitis, nonallergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, rhinitis medicamentosa, and nasal polyposis take place between the usage indications of topical intranasal corticosteroids. The topical application of mometasone furoate which is a synthetic glucocorticoid, and the effects seen on the nasal septal tissues of rabbits subject to the application, were examined in our research. 35 New Zealand masculine rabbits were subject to the research. The rabbits were randomly chosen and divided into four groups. The subjects in the study group (n=30) were divided between eachother through the direct nasal septum, lateral nasal wall, the nasal septum, and the lateral nasal wall into the nasal passage as subgroups of subjects each where mometasone furoate, and ringer lactate was applied for three months. The rabbits in all the groups were sacrificed after three months and incisions of 5 µm were taken from their nasal septums. The incisions were histopathologically examined under a light microscope; the volume of the mucosal ulceration, cartilage damage, goblet cell loss, mucopericondrium and cartilage thickness, fibrosis, cilary loss, mucosal thickness, submucosal vascularity, and inflammatory cell infiltration was examined after they were dyed with hemathoxylin- eosin and masson-trichrome. The data obtained from this was evaluated with Kruskal-Wallis variation analysis and Mann-Whitney U tests. After the mometasone furoate, and ringer lactate was applied for three months, no histopathologic difference was determined in the comparison of the basal group and the groups between each other from the point of the volume of the mucosal ulceration, cartilage damage, goblet cell loss, mucopericondrium and cartilage thickness, fibrosis, cilary loss, mucosal thickness, submucosal vascularity, and inflammatory cell infiltration (p>0.05). A meaningful difference was only statistical determined from the point of submucosal vascularity, between the basal group and the nasal septum mometasone furoate group (p< 0.05). However, goblet cell loss and cilary loss was observed in all the groups where mometasone furoate was applied. 75 % of the rabbits with vehement cilary loss were from the group on which direct nasal septum mometasone furoate was applied. We?ve determined in our research that especially in the group where mometasone furoate was applied on the nasal septum an increase had occurred based on the use of mometasone furoate in the cilary loss, goblet cell loss, and submucosal vascularity. Patients have to be alerted and trained in especially the usage of the medicine.Key words: Rabbit, mometasone furoate, nasal septum
