Abstract (EN)
Theaim of thisresearch is toexaminethematerials, techniques, varieties, patternsandcompositionsused in theornamentsbelongingtotheOttomanPeriod, preserved in the Topkapı PalaceMuseumandTurkishandIslamicArtsMuseum. ThisresearchdealswithIstanbulprovince, itshistory, itsgeographicalfeatures, characteristics of Topkapı PalaceMuseumandTurkishandIslamicArtsMuseum, handicrafts, jewelleryartsanditshistory, minesandtechniquesused in jewellery, ornamentartsandfeatures, ornamentvarieties, anddevelopment of ornamentsduringtheOttomanperiod. Theresearchalsodealswiththestudieshavingbeenperformedbeforehand. Inlinewiththeaim of thisresearch, the art historiansandofficialsworking in the Topkapı PalaceMuseumandTurkishandIslamicArtsMuseumhavebeen met, andobservation form of 70 pieces of ornamentspreserved in thesaidmuseumshavebeenpreparedandevaluated. As a result of theresearch it is seenthat, variouskinds of significantornamentshavesurvivedbeginningfromtheOttomanPerioduntiltoday. Inaddition, there is a largenumber ofornaments in themuseumwarehouse, apart fromtheornamentsexhibited in theexhibitionhall. Accordingtotheinformationgained as a result of theresearch, theplume is encounteredmostlyamongalltheexaminedornaments. Inthelight of thisinformation, it is possibleto say thattheplumes had beencommonlyused on thesultans? quiltedturbans. vi Accordingtoinformationobtained in theresearch, it is seenthatthenumbers of ornamentsbelongingtothe 18th century had beenencounteredmostlyamongtheproductsexamined. Furthermore, theornamentsbelongingtothe 17th and 19th centuryhavetheapproximatevalues as the 18th century, withrespecttotheirsurvivaluntiltoday. Accordingtoinformationobtained in theresearch, it is observedthatmostlygold had beenused as a rawmaterialfortheornamentsexamined. Therefore it is possibleto say, that is an indication of thepowerandwealth of theOttomanEmpire. Accordingtoinformationobtained in theresearch, it is seenthatmostlyclinchingmethodandnailing had beenusedfortheornamentsexamined. As theornaments so produced had beenusedtoomuch in the 16th and 17th century, theyreflectthestyle of classicOttomanEmpire. Therefore as preciousand semipreciousstones had beenverycommonlyencountered, thatfactshowsthatthereinforcingmethod had beenusedtoomuch in theproduction of theornaments. Thesuggestions put forwardbytheresearcherarealsoincluded here, based on thefindingsobtained in theresearch.
