Abstract (EN)
The concept of the city, which was formed by living together in a certain place, needed different formations with the increasing population and showed continuous growth. With the growth of cities and their hosting of different units, the need for inter-space circulation-transportation has emerged within the city, and this movement has given birth to urban transportation. For a sustainable, economical and environmentally friendly transportation system, the use of private vehicles should be reduced and public transportation should be made attractive for passengers in terms of service criteria. With this study, it is aimed to measure the service criteria in urban public transportation systems in Konya province and to examine the supply-demand management for making public transportation attractive for users. The study was carried out on three basic pillars. The first pillar represents the point of view of private vehicle users, the second pillar represents the point of view of public transport users, and the third pillar represents the point of view of the decision-making process in local government. The originality value of the study consists of the fact that the subject is handled by different perspectives and that, unlike the researches in this field, the subject is revealed from the perspective of decision makers. In the study, which is gathered around seven main titles in total, the aim and importance of the thesis are explained in the first part; In the literature summary section, studies on similar topics are compiled, the historical development of the concept of transportation, public transportation policies applied in the world and the EN13816 criteria, which are the service criteria in public transportation, are mentioned and the conceptual framework is defined. The planning experiences, the history of transportation plans and the current status of public transportation systems of Konya city center, which is determined as the study area, are revealed. In the fifth part of the study, the material and method of the research were explained, and then the data of the questionnaire consisting of 13 questions for the people of the city and in-depth interviews with the decision makers were examined. According to the results of the survey, it was understood that the participants had easy access to public transportation in the city center of Konya, but they did not use the existing transportation systems because they did not respond to their demands and did not meet some criteria, and that the pandemic process did not cause a significant change in the preferences of public transportation users. As a result of the interviews with the decision makers, it was stated that the existing problems were actually awared, but some of these improvements could not be achieved due to some reasons mentioned in thesis. In the last part of the study, suggestions have been made that can be applied in all cities, especially Konya and how a sustainable transportation system can be built by making public transportation systems more attractive.
