Women in socialist realist novels

The social-realistic literary is one of the major literary concepts that influenced the 20th century. People are created in accordance with the concept of the positive type of character they defend. The purpose of the thesis is to reveal the perspective of this understanding on the problems of women and women, to determine the characteristics of the female characters created, and to identify the stereo and proto-types of the feminine characters inherent in this understanding. Socialist realism has given more space to certain women's problems and female characters through movement from oppressed, powerful-poor conflicts. It has focused on the rural and working women living in the slums and their problems related to their working, family, and social lives. Novels suitable for this understanding in terms of giving place to characters with different sections, different problems, and conflicts, are important from the perspective of novel history. In many works, the solution to problems has been demonstrated by putting in place characteristics appropriate to the positive type of understanding. Some characters have stereo and proto-type features. According to these findings, it can be said that the socialist realistic concept of the novel has a distinct female typology. When we look at the female typology, there are obvious differences between its contemporary and previous novel understanding. It can be seen that women who encounter different pressure mechanisms mostly struggle and sometimes surrender. Women are at the forefront with the difficulties and resistance they experience. Those who do not resist or go the wrong path will be guided to take the right way rather than be punished. This is the result of revolutionary romanticism, which is one of the characteristics of the socialist realism. The depictions of women are not very detailed even though they are the main characters. It focuses more on behaviors, giving specific physical characteristics. The psychological aspects of the characters are weak. Rather than their feelings and thoughts, the dialogues—which have the function of introducing the character and conveying the plot—and movements have an important place. Including so many female characters, some of whom are the main characters, shows that women's problems are given importance and they want to be resolved. Many women from different walks of life, including main characters and sub-characters, are made visible. Even in novels where individual themes are dominant, social problems are examined. As a result, in socialist realist novels, female characters occupy an important place and reveal the female truth in a more detailed and multi-layered way in terms of the diversity it creates.
