An investigation on the use of the crisis communication methods in the context of social consciousness

Consciousness is often associated with the individual as a personal trait, but from a wider perspective, social awareness provides important clues about social life. The level of social consciousness will shape the perceptions and reactions of the members of society, which will change their perceptions. These phenomena range from everyday events to politics, from economics to various institutions. The perspectives of societies in which institutions act as actors will determine how these institutions react to the crises they are experiencing, what crisis management techniques they use and what results they achieve. The purpose of this study is to observe what crisis management techniques are used by the institutions and their results in the light of the consciousness level of the societies. First of all, the concept of consciousness and social consciousness will be examined and how and by which criteria the levels of consciousness of societies are determined. Richard Barrett's 7 Levels Model will be examined in detail. Next, the concepts of crisis and crisis management will be discussed and the crisis management techniques used in connection with the consciousness of societies and institutions will be investigated. In the last part of the study, a case analysis of the Samsung Note 7 crisis will be made, which is a global crisis that has echoed in many countries. The analysis will be performed in the markets of USA, South Korea, China and lastly Turkey. The differences in crisis communication methods in these countries will be examined and evaluated.
