A film analysis in the context of social gender: An example movie "Hesitation"

In this thesis, the position of the woman in Yeşim Ustaoğlu's film "Hesitation" was examined in the context of gender and feminism. While discussing gender and cinema relations, feminist theories were also used. Gender roles; although they vary from society to society, from individuals to individuals, from culture to culture, women, including working ones with high status can be held responsible for domestic affairs, undertaking childcare and being assigned to minimal jobs lead to inequalities between men and women. In this study, the role of gender as a seventh art from mass media and the role of gender through the construction of female characters are explained. The film was found important because of its social realistic structure and being suitable for gender analysis. In this work, the movie Hesitation was used as a sociological study consisting of literature review and movie analysis sections. In the first part of the study, the concept and roles of gender, the concept of social class, feminism in Turkish society, feminist theories, cinema and gender was reviewed. In the second part, topics such as mass communication concept, mass media, mass media and gender, and the use of motion pictures as a source of sociological data are examined.In the third part, within the context of these concepts researched in the literature, the position of the woman was examined and the analysis of the film was made. As a result, it was concluded that when the identity attributed to men and women within the limits drawn by social norms turned into accepted identity, the woman was stuck in the face of masculine approach and disappeared in her spiritual movements while struggling with it.
