Abstract (EN)
Poverty, which has always existed from the past to the present, is getting deeper with globalization and is becoming a problem for all societies. Neoliberal processes that define people through comsumption cause poverty to increase and deepen with globalization. As individuals who are more affected by poverty in societies and households, women experience poverty more intensely and are more affected by this situation. Women, who are also economically disadvantaged, may turn to entrepreneurship to get rid of this situation, contribute to the family economy, and then to contribute to their own social-cultural development. Women who are entrepreneurs are positioned differently in society as individuals who can contribute to the family and the country's economy and stand on their own feet; their achievements are mentioned as success stories, while the poor and women tend to be portrayed as victims. Based on all these aspects, in this thesis, it is aimed to reveal how the news about women's poverty and entrepreneurship are expressed and presented in the national print media through a critical discourse analysis through the newspapers Hürriyet and Sözcü, which have different ideological structures. In this context, critical discourse analysis was applied to 37 of the 90 news about women's poverty and women's entrepreneurship in Hürriyet and Sözcü Newspapers between January 01 and June 31, 2021. As a result of the analysis, it was found in the Hürriyet Newspaper that women's poverty was ignored and the news about women's entrepreneurship was supported by the state and institutions by emphasizing their contribution to the household and national economy. In Sözcü Newspaper, it was observed that the news about women's poverty was presented by the opposition as news to criticize the government, and the news about women's entrepreneurship was presented as individual achievements and cooperative supported works.
