Being a Muslim woman in the ideal of gender equality: The problem of the alienation of Islamic feminist women from the religious tradition

This thesis focuses on the forms of relationship that Muslim women, who have adopted gender equality, which is accepted as an indispensable element of social justice by feminist discourse in today's world, establish with their religious belonging and tradition in the face of the 'anti-woman' content of the religious tradition. As women who have directly embraced Islamic feminism, the ways in which "Islamic feminist" women, as well as conservative women who do not have a feminist identity but have adopted the various ideas presented by feminist jargon, make sense of the problematic parts of the verses of the Qur'an and hadith texts, which are the main actors of the religious tradition, about women, are discussed in the axis of their feminist consciousness. The analytical role played by the ideal of gender equality in the treatment and interpretation of the Qur'an and hadith texts by Islamic feminist women and conservative women with feminist jargon has been tried to be revealed. In this context, it has been one of the main routes of the study how feminist consciousness has prepared the ground for a distance and alienation between religious tradition and Muslim women by causing the invalidity of the limits, descriptions and judgments revealed by the hadith texts about women in the eyes of Muslim women.
