Evaluation of women friendly cities practices in the context of gender and urban space relationship

This study covers the studies to reveal the results of the Women Friendly Cities Project, which is a global scale project to eliminate gender inequality in urban space. Throughout the historical process, the perception that they belong to the home, which is expressed as the private space of women, and to the places outside the home, which is expressed as the public space of men, has caused women to have a limited place in the public space. Therefore, various solutions have been proposed and many studies have been carried out in order to correct this unbalanced situation in the international dimension. One of the studies carried out in this context was the Women Friendly Cities Project. The project underlines the need for women to have equal rights with men in the urban public space, to benefit the rights of the city fairly and equally, and to be recognised in urban political participation. In this study, it has been tried to examine the effects of the outputs of the project in Turkey, which is one of the countries that signed the Women-Friendly Cities Project. One of the main objectives of the project is the active and equal participation of women in local government processes in urban space. After examining how women benefit from opportunities such as urban services, transportation, health, infrastructure services, education and employment, which are the other dimensions of Women Friendly Cities, and how progress has been made in the public space, the dimensions of political participation are examined.
