An examination of Birsen Ekim Özen's children's books in terms of gender roles

In order to create a correct perception of gender roles in children who have been interacting with books since the pre-school period, it is important that the roles assigned to the characters in the books are put forward in a line that emphasizes respect for personal rights, advocates equality and displays a democratic attitude. For this reason, in our study, Birsen Ekim Özen was examined in terms of revealing the gender roles in the selected children's books. The document analysis design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. In the study, 7 books of Birsen Ekim Özen named Aura, Katpatuka, Cam Kafes, Mühürler Sandığı Sümer, Mühürler Sandığı Mısır, Mühürler Sandığı Olimpiyatlar ve Mühürler Sandığı Roma were examined.When we look at the data, it is possible to say that every character in the books has traditional stereotypes in terms of gender roles, but with the transition to an increasingly modern social structure, it is possible to say that most of the stereotypes have been broken and that the roles of both sexes are on an equal course, and the roles are getting closer to each other. In other words, while it is possible to come across negative messages in terms of gender roles in the books, it can be said that there are sources that break down gender stereotypes and give positive messages in terms of roles.
