Sharing of Domestic Responsibilities in the Context of Gender Attitudes: The Case of Highly Educated-Employed-Religious Women and Their Husbands By whom and how the responsibilities such as cooking, house cleaining, laundry, ironing, shopping, repairing, child care, playing with children, dropping child to the school, picking up from school, hosting guests and keeping relatives-friends relationships in balance will be organized and carried out are at the heart of the lives of couples working together. The concept called "second shift" in the amilya re, meaning how the post-working limited time is organized, provides a favorable basis for revealing the gender attitudes of the couples. In this work, couples, with 0-6 years of aged children, who were thought to be most appropriate to understand the gender interaction of the couples and their consequences including the emotional dimension have been studied. The sample group consists of 25 married couples who had higher education, husband and wife working, religious and 0-6 years old children. Through in-depth interviews with both women and their spouses, the effects of family, education and religion on the gender-building process of the participants and their impact on the sharing of responsibility within the family were tried to be understood. In the first part of our study, sociological approaches towards the theoretical background of the scope and content of the concepts of gender and housework regarding sharing of responsibility within the amilya re given. The second part, which is one of the cornerstones of Turkey's modernization process until today the Tanzimat Period Turkish family structure, family relations, family responsibility sharing and the status of women have been tried to reveal changes occurring. Field research findings are evalutated in two parts by linking with first two chapters. Firstly, in the third chapter, experiences of the family, education and pre-marriage process before marriage life which have central role in construction of current gender attitudes will be given. In the fourth part, gender interactions of spouses in the current families of the participants and how the sharing of responsibility in the amilya re organized are emphasized. This chapter also includes how the division of labor is rearranged at various stages of the family cycle, such as pregnancy, the birth of the first child and the birth of the second child, and the emotional consequences of the division of labor, as well as the influence of factors such as time-availability, resources, attitudes and religion that affect responsibility sharing.
