Abstract (EN)

In this research, written sources about social change in the world and Turkey were examined. In parallel with this change, the process of the emergence and transformation of the music genre which the Turkish people call 'Anatolian Pop/Rock' has been clarified on the case of Barış Manço. Despite being a very popular public figure, there are not enough musicological researches about the artist or his works. Besides, a study dealing with his being a man of music and culture could not be found. In this study, the progress of local music in the context of Turkish modernization along with the changes in Western music will be examined. The development of music in the pre-modern period will briefly be discussed and the change of modern music in history will be examined through social change. And the information we have will be evaluated in parallel with the effects of the modernization process on music in the Ottoman and Republic eras. In this work, the rise of Anatolian Pop/Rock music genre and its progress until today will be discussed through the case study of Barış Manço; and some interviews with his family and friends about the life story of the artist will be presented.
