The formal approach of the buildings, which can be part of nature, highlights the land they are located in as a reference and uses environmental data at the maximum level. In the thesis, it is aimed to discuss the importance of the concept of "harmony with topography" in architectural designs and to keep the architectural design criteria on the agenda by examining them in the context of formal, functional, structural facade features and location. In modern architectural structures, the flexibility that topography adds to the design is emphasized by shaping the land according to the designs. The subject headings of the study consist of four parts. First of all, the dictionary meanings of the concept of topography were examined with theoretical definitions. In the second part, the formation of the topography in the historical development process and the way it was interpreted from the first settlements to the present are listed chronologically. In the third part, the use of topography in architectural design has been examined under two headings: above ground and underground structures. As a result of the research findings, the design criteria of the buildings within the scope of the study: Karatepe Aslantaş Açık Hava Müzesi, Norman Lykes House, Cherry Hill Office, TBMM Camisi, Galicia Kültür Merkezi, Chichu Sanat Müzesi, Hebil 157 Evleri, Voronoi Corrals and Issa Megaron were examined. As a design criterion; These materials, which were organized under the titles of area criteria-topographic harmony, shell and facade design, building material selection, interior design, were examined within a certain framework of fiction. As a result, it is aimed that the buildings establish a harmonious relationship with the topography and create a perception and sensitivity towards site-specific architectural designs. By evaluating the topography and environmental effects together, it is aimed that the gains obtained by analyzing the solutions based on the indoor and outdoor relationship, suitable for the location, will be a reference to architectural designs.
