Özet (EN)

After the economic crisis, it has been understood that; unrenewable energy sources are not infinite, so the suefficient ways of consuming those, must be developed. As the heat pumps use more energy for heating and cooling than it consumes, research workers has drawn attention to this subject. In this research, all heat pumps are classified according to their heat sources and heat sinks but especially has been concentrated on ground - source heat pumps and an application about this subject has been made. Since the heat exchagers are buried underground, the installation costs of the ground - source heat pumps are relatively high, but are made up through low maintenance, operating expenses and high coefficient of performance. Ground - source heat pumps must be carefully designed because of the high installation costs. The properties of soil, air and soil temperature and heat pump charecteristics must be correctly known for the best design. In the application, a house in Istanbul has been cooled and heated by ground -source heat pumps. Every steps that's necessary for designing are described, briefly. To decide necessary pipe lenght, Kelvin Line Source Method has been used. Pipe resistance and the soil resistance have been found from the tables. Key Words: heat source, coefficient of performance, heat pump, ground - source, design steps VI
