Evaluation of the concepts of totem and totemism in today's sculpture art

The determination of art in a cultural context indicates the necessity of establishing its contexts in its social content. In this context, belief systems, which are one of the most important factors in the emergence of art, are the codes engraved in the human brain in the formation of collective consciousness or in the shaping and organization of the relationships between individuals and society within the phenomenon we call life. The backbone of the research consists of four main sections. The necessary definitions are included in the first. In the second section, the subject of totem and totemism is examined in the context of cultures, and Aboriginal and Native American cultures are prioritized. In the third section, totem and totemism theories are studied. By opening the contexts of the relationship between society, religion, art and morality, it is attempted to trace the cultural codes of the sub-concepts such as marriage, family, kinship and brotherhood, which are the result of this and which guide the society, and to emphasize storytelling. In the last section of the research, the place of totem traces of the past in today's sculpture art is pointed out and examples from the works of today's contemporary artists are given. It is supported by our personal applications that we have made by feeding on our research that includes the trace of totem and totemism from the past to the present.
