Abstract (EN)
Objective: The contribution of BLS training given to Akdeniz University School of Medicine Term V students in the Emergency Medicine Internship to the practical skills of students and how much of the learned skills are permanent in 9 months were investigated. Method: The study was completed with 64 students selected before the emergency medicine education in March 2019. The study was carried out quasi-experimental without the control group. In the study, the questionnaire study and the CPR skills were measured with the Resusci Anne QCPR simulation mannequin in order to measure the basic knowledge and skill levels of students prior to education. The same measurement was repeated within one week after training and 9 months after training. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis among themselves. Results: In the study, the median value of the compression score of the participants increased from 36.5% (10-54) to 51.5% (20-82) compared to before the training in the CPR performance, and it was found statistically significant (p<0.001). The median of the chest compression score after 9 months was 62.5% (26-85), there was no decrease but the increase was not considered statistically significant (p=0.377). Conclusion: It was concluded that the BLS training given to the 5th term students by the Department of Emergency Medicine increases the effectiveness of the students' chest compressions and this skill does not decrease in 9 months.
