Abstract (EN)
Traffic, which is an important part of our daily life, gives rise to lossesthat we face with very often in our country besides the benefits itprovides for the humanity. The main purpose of the traffic signs is toovercome those problems so that to provide safe traffic environmentfor the drivers and pedestrians. The most important condition ofcreating safe driving is transferring the information about the road tothe elements (drivers and pedestrians) by communication effectively.Since communication can be provided through the traffic signs whiledriving, transferring the message intended to give to driver could beachieved only by effective design of traffic signs. This study aims toanalyze the basic factors that affect the perception of traffic signs andthe socio-cultural factors contributing to safe driving environment. Inthis study, public survey has been used as a widespread technique forgetting information. 210 people (23 women, 197 men) have anticipatedin this survey and they filled out a form which contains 20 questionsabout different types of traffic signs. As an outcome the proportion ofthe right answers was 81,8 % for men, 73,2 % for women and 81 % astotal.It must be around 100 % to constitude a safer traffic environment. Forthis reason it?s considered some arrangements could be done for abeter perception of the existing traffic signs.
